SDI Open Water Scuba Diver
SDI Open Water Scuba Diver is your entry-level course into the amazing underwater world. Two thirds of our world is covered in water – start exploring the rarely explored! From Shipwrecks to abundant Marine Life, there is a lot to be enjoyed under the waves. Scuba diving is not just another sport; it’s a transformative experience that allows you to witness life under the waves. It is an activity that can be enjoyed at almost any age and can be combined with travel to some of the most beautiful and remote destinations in the world. Certification is your ticket to these experiences and the starting point for many more advanced diving opportunities. Upon successful completion of this course, you will be qualified to dive to 18 meters and have the opportunity to further your qualifications to allow you to explore more of the underwater world. |

The course includes a component of theory delivered primarily through e-Learning, practical pool sessions run over three Thursday evenings at the La Trobe Bundoora campus, and finishes with a full weekend of shore and boat dives on the Mornington Peninsula. For further information on the Open Water Diver course, please download the Open Water Course Info Sheet. A full dive medical will be required prior to undertaking the Open Water Diver Course. See the SPUMS website for a full list of dive medical doctors in your area. Note that different doctors charge different rates for dive medicals so it is worth ringing around. Most healthy individuals will complete a dive medical without complication, however there are some medical conditions which may be cause for concern. Refer to the SDI medical questionnaire as a preliminary check before making an appointment. There is no need to return this form, however you will be required to complete an online version once you are enrolled in the course.
