Dive La Trobe Committee

President

Mark Stiebel | mark.stiebel@divelatrobe.org.au

After getting his scuba certification in 1990, Mark has spent many hours underwater locally around Port Phillips Bay, as well as many tropical destinations through South East Asia and the South Pacific. A La Trobe Alumni from the 90's, it took until 2022 to join Dive La Trobe, and then voted in as President at the 2024 AGM.

Mark is an SDI Open Water Instructor, self-confessed scuba gear-head and a keen underwater photographer, seldom seen underwater without his camera unless teaching or assisting with a course.

Vice President

John Dalla-Zuanna | jdz@divelatrobe.org.au

John began studying at La Trobe University in 1975 and quickly became involved with the Dive Latrobe Club, already holding his scuba certification at the time.

As a Dive Latrobe Life Member, he has spent decades exploring the waters of Port Phillip Bay, around The Heads, and offshore along the Victorian coastline beyond the Heads.

John is an SDI Instructor Trainer and a skipper of DLT’s boat, Nauseous, with a strong passion for mentoring divers, promoting safe diving practices, and sharing the enjoyment of the underwater world with club members.

Secretary

Patrick Allen - patrick@divelatrobe.org.au

Patrick became an Open Water SCUBA Diver in 2018 after graduating with his PhD from La Trobe University the previous year (2017). He completed his Advanced Adventure Dive course (2021) with Dive La Trobe in Port Phillip Bay and his Rescue and Nitrox Diver courses (2024) while liveaboard diving on the Great Barrier Reef near Cairns with additional dives on Australia’s #1 wreck site (the SS Yongala wreck, QLD). Since then, he has continued diving in recreational, tech diving and basic cave sites and was voted Club Secretary at the 2025 AGM.

Patrick’s passion in diving is exploring WWII-era and other historically significant shipwrecks and he is often involved in collecting aquatic specimens for biological research. For 2026, Patrick is focused on cave diving, advanced sidemount and trimix (helium) diving.
